Duane says that there we no further damage to the house from the hurricane. The dunes are diminished by about 1/3 but they held. No sand under the house.
He said the house is dried out and ready to go but he has not submitted rebuild estimates to USAA. He said he is having a hard time getting pricing on some items and there is like a three-week delay on sheet rock orders.
I didn't realize this, but they tore out the carpet in all the bedrooms and closets. The only carpet remaining is on the central stairs. This leads to a larger question. The cheapest option (and the one that USAA will pay for is to go back with carpet. We could also still opt to upgrade the stairs and hallways to tile, vinyl, or hardwood, recognizing that those are high traffic areas. We would be paying for that upgrade out of pocket. To me, that upgrade made a lot of sense when we just had the stairs and the hallway in play because we were not going to be matching the carpet in the bedroom. But now, if we are recarpeting everything, it takes a way a little of the rationale to upgrade. It would still make sense just a little of the rationale is gone. Also, for some reason, during this conversation, he brought back up matching the tile in great rooms.
