Captain’s log, June 23, 2020 24

Why is it always the prettiest day the day you have to come home?

Surf has been rough, but has been lovely and enjoyable. I don't think I've been down in June since back of the day. It was cooler and a little less crowded than it is around 4 July or early August when we have tended to come down in more recent years.

By the time I got there on Thursday night, the crew had removed the East side siding, as well as the siding on the Bayside and the Gulf side. The crew showed up at eight on Friday and work till about six. They installed one floor's worth of Hardie board on Friday on the east side of the house and on Saturday they installed the second story.
It's a little annoying to have the generator running the nailguns popping, but it's not too bad.
I never saw Miguel, and the other workers don't speak any English.
But they were very nice, work very hard.
I spent some time in the attic, and it is clear from the inside where the leak has been occurring above the west side upstairs bathroom. A new boot for the pipe should fix the problem. and it's clear from the pictures that that is needed.
We need to install more definitive signs that say no trespassing We are getting visitors from both houses on Ponce de Leon And from the shrimp boat and adjacent house. I scared off one group but others slipped by.

I should have started with this because it's important. I will communicate this directly to Cliff. The ceramic stove top is having problems. Ivy noticed this on a previous visit. The eyes on the right side of the stove top don't cut off completely when you turn it off. At this point, the problem has gotten so bad That I had to flip the circuit breaker to turn the eyes off. It's circuit breaker number six. It also turns off the electrical outlets underneath the house.
I really appreciate the Cliff willingness to devote vacation time to home the improvements that I only trust him to do. The support for the stairs beneath the kitchen looks great and extremely  well done. I am reassured by his plan for additional measures to shore up at least for now the upper decks.

I visited the sassy Bass, which continues to evolve. They have converted the old fire station into their market. Beer and liquor is still for sale at the far end of where the market used to be. But most of the market space has been converted into an extension of the restaurant. I did not eat there.

The beach seemed shorter than it has which was probably due to the fact that it was high tide during a full moon when I was initially observing it.

The sand formation has shifted some, and there's a deep pool in front vacant lot. The sand drops off to a hole there before getting shallow again.
In that deep pool, when the surf is active, it creates something of a challenge. Maybe a little undertow. Watch out.

Black headed seagulls are out fishing and the mullet were jumping. I have to admit the shark attack earlier this month made me nervous .

Renters are now in the Haycraft house. There were families in and out of the Von house. And the morning glory was rented by a family who are big fans of Cliff.
