Grinder pump

The grinder pump red alert light was on when we arrived 8/30/2019. Called Gulf Shores Utilities, our sewer provider. They said their system was fine so we needed to call a plumber. Called 24/7. They couldn't get anyone out at night but sent David out this morning.
David initially said we needed a new basin and pump which would have involved an excavator etc. said that we have an old basin and the modern ones are better designed, bigger, and easier to work on. He quoted approximately $4,500 for that.
We hemmed and hawed and complainer and he talked to headquarters. The major overhaul would not be able to be done until Tuesday, but they came up with an alternative: replace the grinder pump and the electrical panel that goes to it for about $3,500. Stay with existing basin. Work could be done today.
That is what we are going to do. May cost us in the long run or this may fix all our problems. He might have been suggesting the more expensive repair because it cost more and would be easier for him in the long run and it would potentially avoid problems in the long run for us. He may have changed his tune because he talked to his boss because he knew we needed a repair now, because, as we explained, we didn't need a high capacity basin because we don't rent.
Whatever. Going forward, we'll keep track of this installation and make sure to take care.
I'm stating the obvious probably, but on the grinder pump system feminine products, wipes, and basically anything that is not toilet paper or human waste should not be flushed.

Other advice about what to do and what not to do regarding the grinder pump.
