We are here for the last time for the summer of 2013. Here are pictures.
When we got here the weather it was hot and still, the water calm.
We had realized around Clanton that we'd left the keys at home. After a couple of phone calls, we decided to press on and hope could get in by scaling the decks. Using an overturned trash can and a rope, Tom scaled the Southeast corner of the deck, then hoisted the can up and repeated the process to get onto the upper deck, where one door is for all intents and purposes, unlockable.
We got in around midnight.
The next day was calm but a slight breeze had begun to blow. I got little of no enthusiasm for a boat trip and gave up trying to push for one.
The change in the weather brought out birds and fish.
On Saturday we caught four saltwater cats; two with chopped up old mullet and two with small live fish we'd caught with the bait casting net.
We had just about given up when a school of fish came close to shore. For kicks I through the bait casting net out. Lo and Behold I snagged four large mullet in one cast of the small net.
Great victory.
James and I cooked and cleaned them frying them up.
On Friday night and again on Saturday we got to see shooting stars from the Perseid meteor shower. We saw them in the Southern sky around 10 p.m. I saw them overhead and in the northern sky at 3 a.m.
We've seen a bunch of sea turtle nests. Several near here, just to the west. I'm guessing they will hatch in late September.
We saved the peanut oil for the fry and it is fine for reuse but keep that in mind.
We got big black plastic trash bags.
We through out flat tonic water. If you want some bring fresh, bring it.
We started a new project, with the working title "One bucket for Burr" or "One Burita beach bucket." We are pledging that each member of our party, each time we come to the beach, will gather one bucket of gravel out of the sand dunes below the beachside deck and the lot next door.
I'd love to see the day when the dunes are dunes again.
